Quickie on the Holy Spirit.

Ok, This really is not Mary. This is Robert, a friend type person.

Let me start by saying that the few post that I have read are awesome and true! I am over filled with joy when I come here, knowing that the people that wrote those(Wrote them with God's help) are the same little people that I know and love.

I was reading the post below about obedience and noticed it went off into a bit of a discussion. The question that came up was "Does God Talk To Us?". Hmm... Does He..? I sure hope so, because if He doesn't then I have been listening to the wrong voices.

Lets start out by figuring out what the Holy Spirit is. John 14:16 calls the Holy Spirit "The Comforter" and that He will abide with us forever.

"John 14:16:And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter , that he may abide with you for ever;(KJV)"

Notice it says "another" comforter, I believe that the Holy Spirit is to us(Believers) what Jesus was to the Disciples in the Gospels.

Just like Jesus revealed things to His disciples, the Holy Spirit will do the same for us. My reasoning for this? Well, Jesus says that the Holy Spirit will reveal the things of Him.

"John 16:13-14
13 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.
14 He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew it unto you.(KJV)"

"John 14:26
26 But the Comforter , which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.(KJV)"

So, The Holy Spirit reveals the things of Jesus to true believers. What ever Jesus has spoken, He will bring to our remembrance, what ever Jesus will speak He will speak them to us. Jesus loved us so much that when He died He prayed to the Father to send us another like Him, But rather then being a sort of flesh and bones it was to be a "Spirit", a Spirit that would dwell in us, Forever.

Below is just a quick personal rant...

A quick thought just came to mind while John(John) was praying. Why should we pray to God expecting him to listen and at the same time, not expect him to answer, to speak?

Nowhere in scripture did believers stop receiving the Holy Spirit when we got the Completed works. Nowhere in scripture does God change the role of the Holy Spirit, it has been and still is revealing the things of Jesus. But, on the other side, the Holy Spirit also convicts us, We can grieve Him and since He lives in us we sense that feeling, Is that why Christians feel guilty when they do something against God's Word?

The Holy Spirit is a very important figure, would we all not agree? To say that God doesn't speak to us would be saying we don't need the Holy Spirit. Mary just provoked a wonderful though.

The Holy Spirit is our Comforter! He comforts us with the words of Christ, and Jesus and God are One.

John 15:26
26 But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me:(KJV)

John 14:17-18
17 Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.
18 I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.(KJV)

John 16:8
8 And when he(The Holy Spirit) is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment:(KJV)

John 16:15
15 All things that the Father hath are mine: therefore said I, that he shall take of mine, and shall shew it unto you.(KJV)

when i see some one raise some one from the dead, or i see some one speak it toungs or i see/hear God really talking to some one like in words then i will believe in the "gift of the holy spirt" and Beth calls them... and thats all i will say i have to say that when you are telling me these things you have no idea what me and Emily where saying to you. You did not understand we were not saying God does not lead us or tell us to do things but he does not "talk" to us any more and thats what it says clearly in the bible.

But i agree we are getting no where continuing to talk about it so i am done.

I agree with those verses you gave about the "baptist statement of faith" thing, but none of them are in the context of God not 'speaking' to us any more. They are about the authority and the truth of the Scriptures. I say this with confidence, the verses they use have absolutely nothing to do with God not speaking to us anymore.

And yeah, the whole thing about God speaking to us in an audible voice is a different subject, I'm not saying he cant, because scripture doesn't say he cant. No where in Gods word does he say he no longer speaks to us. In fact he talks about doing it all the time. I quite frankly think a lot of Christians, me included just aren't trying to hear his voice.

By the way, the gifts of the holy spirit are real and are being used! I know people that speak in tounges, I know people that have been healed and I know people that hear the voice of God, ya know, God has a still small voice. But remember! The gift of salvation that God has given us is not based on what we have seen and what we hear, its based on Faith! Faith that what Jesus did for us really saved us and faith that one day we'll be in heaven. I believe right now that I'm going to heaven when I pass away, I have faith. I'm not going to wait till I get there to believe it.

By the way, it's good to meet you, Faith. I live here in town with the Reams, known them forever-ish. I wanna let you know that I'm not trying to prove you wrong. I know I come off as a bold type of person, because.. Well, I am. I'm very bold. While having conversations with people I have to stop and make sure I'm not offending them because it can sound like I am, even when I dont intend it to be offensive in any way. And, if I have come off that way, I'm sorry. I hope that nothing I have said makes you think I'm a arrogant hott headed jerk.

How would your relationship with you mother, father, friends, pastor, ect.. be if all they did was tell you what to do and how to do it? For me, it would suck. I had a similar relationship with my father and basicly, there is no relationship beyond how work is going. For me, I believe God wants to speak to us, have conversations, and encourage us. He wants us to come to him, and seek his face! He is a loving Father, one that invest his time into us. Time with the Father is something more valuable than anything this world has to offer.

Well, I've got cows to attend to, God bless you all, and remember God in everything.

well just so ya know i dont think your a jerk to speak what you believe i think that is very brave so good job but i dont agree with you and i never siad God cant talk to us it says in the bible "very clearly i might add" that He does not any more because we have the whole bible.

and i am sorry but that also applys to the gifts of the holy spirt they have not happend sense the time of the new testement and God cleary says that when that witch is perfect comes those gifts will pass away and Jesus came.

so i dont know if you know benny hinn or what but thats fake.

and it is arrogant to say you need more then the bible witch is what you said.

but nice to meet you too

and i love you too Jane but i dont agree with ya this time. I believe that God gave us the bible and we dont need anything else but God. He speaks to us through the Bible not in talking

Benny Hinn is.. Well, a liar, fool and a tool of the devil!

So, other than "That which is perfect is come...", are there any other verses? I like scripture.

You said it's very clearly talk about in scripture, I only caught one verse but... I have opinions on that one. And, why is it the Bible teaches on the use of spiritual gifts? Not only teaches, but encourages the use. And that was all after Christ came, tought, died and rose.

Did you know there are still many languages without the complete word of God?

Anonymous said...

well i could commetn many verses but ya know Emily already did and if i did i would get the same reply and i am really just tired of fighting about it i mean i am never gonna convince you and you are never gonna convince me in what you believe because i believe what the bible says. So i guess what i am saying is that i am done. I mean my brother commented some realllly good stuff and no one ever said anything about it so pretty much what i am saying is whats the use....you wont liston no afence or anything, but i have had enough I believe strongly in what the bible says and that is that God gave us the bible and thats all we need.

God bless, no hard feelings

your sister in Christ even if we dont agree on this topic

Wow, this has totally turned to a different discusion than what it first started out. Maybe someone should start a new thread and label it the "gifts of the holy spirit and their uses for the Christian?" I don't know. The discussion just seems to have gone a long way off from where it originated, but I guess that happens sometimes.

At any rate I am new to this page and by chance came across it. Wobbit makes some interesting points, whoever that is, as does faith. I would like to see this fleshed out though maybe in a seperate thread. I am particularly interested in the tongues, prophecy and healing gifts, as I am a new Christain, and have heard about these but have no knowlege or teaching in them.

thanks. your friendly neighborhood spiderman

read 1 Corinthians chapters 12 -14 hobbit. no other comments. ya'll know what i have to say.

Beth i read that and i am sorry but it proves my point clearly

JohnJohn said...

OK, I said that I did not want this going any farther but I am going to ad something.

Ok When the hole bible is here then you argument will be valid but what wobbet said is quit true the bible is still not translated languages, therefore I come to the question. "Is all that is perfect Come?" and how do we know that "all that is perfect" the bible and not Jesus on his return to earth, to take us all home with him?

And, on the gift of healing I have a very good friend that goes to Africa every year and he has seen people be healed through player right there and then while they were praying.

Yeah, Bible not being 100% available to everyone...If that's what the verse is talking about...?

Okay, so... More important than spiritual gifts? Evangelism! That's right! Some one want to start a post on preaching the gospel?

Anonymous said...

ooooooooooh! that would be a good thing to post about! i'm actually having a debate about that right this very second!! well sorta, the guy i'm talking to left and i still didn't get to say what i want to say i think i'll put part of it down here, this will be long (this is also about what it is to be a Christian, we were talking about how he can't talk about God in school):

Beth says:
do you believe God created us?
Korezz says:
yea
Beth says:
doesn't it bother you that you can't talk about it?
Korezz says:
not really
Beth says:
hm
Beth says:
interesting
Korezz says:
because i belive
Korezz says:
that people should be able to belive what they want 2
Beth says:
well, yah they can't be FORCED into Christianinty, many are called but few are chosen. but God COMANDS us to tell people about Him
Beth says:
it's called the great commission
Korezz says:
i think people are just scared of the truth
Beth says:
it's out purpose on this earth to tell people about God, that's why were are here, and i think people and ignorent, or confused, and yes scared
Beth says:
they don't know what an awesome God we have
Korezz says:
yea this is what i belive
Korezz says:
i belive in god
Korezz says:
but i dont think we sould base our whole life around him
Korezz says:
sitting in our room studying about him knowing everything about it and teaching it
Korezz says:
i think where here to enjoy life AND KNOW that he exists and we have to belive hes there
Korezz says:
and we have to let people know that
Korezz says:
I DO BELIVE IN HIM
Korezz says:
and all that
Korezz says:
because people are here to have fun and enjoy life
Korezz says:
enjoing life is what i think the meaning of life is

and this is what i want to say, but havn't got the chance to say yet:

we are here to be servants. people don't like to hear that, but that's what the Bible says. yes we can have pleasure on this earth, but that's NOT what we are here for, we are here for God, we are here to tell people about HIM, our whole life SHOULD be centered around God, He is everything. this earth is evil. and it will stay evil till our Lord and Savior comes back. no, we are not to sit in our house and just read the Bible, we are to go out into the world and preach the gospel to every critter Jesus DIED for us, don't you think He deserves our whole life, our whole existence? being a Christian is more then believing, that is a very VERY important part, you can't be saved if you don't believe, but even the devil believes in God, what being a Christian is, is being a SERVANT of God, that's what we are. the chief end of man is the SERVE God and enjoy HIM forever. in Him we live and move and have our being. I find actually that serving God is more fun and brings more joy, REAL joy then anything else. God isn't this worm fuzzy something that just wants us to be happy and have fun all the time. Yes He does want us to be happy, but being His should make us happy, He is all we should need.

what do ya'll think?

Jane said...

I think you're filled with the Holy Spirit, Beth! AMEN! After all Christ did for us, the least we can do is give our whole selves to him.

Anonymous said...

we are here to glorify God, thats why he created us! we are not here to just enjoy life unless we enjoy glrifying god witch I do! and i know that yall do to! Beth you are a good friend to talk about that with Nick he needs to hear it! lol keep on!

Wow, I missed a lot this is real god stuff.

I did notice that I think Faith was trying to get a point across when she, instead of using the word "Serve," she used the word "Glorify". Now I am not sure if Faith was trying to get a point across but that is what serving really is it is glorifying God and that is what we should all strive to do. Serving, singing, teaching, thinking about him, they are all ways to glorify GOD, and that is all we should really think about is glorifying GOD. If we are glorifying GOD, we can not go wrong. God only takes Glorify in the right. With GOD there is no sin.

I am sharing my beliefs I am not saying these are absolute truths. If someone, anyone thinks that I am bereaving falsely please tell me.
